چکیده

We used a ∼ 300 ks long XMM-Newton observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG–6-30-15 to study the correlation between the 0.2–10 keV X-ray and the 3000–4000 Å U bands. We found a significant correlation peak at a time lag of τmax ∼ 160 ks where the UV flux variations preceded the variations in the X-ray band. We interpret this result as evidence in favour of Comptonisation models where the observed X-rays are produced through Compton up-scattering of thermal UV seed photons from an accretion disc, as this process naturally predicts the UV variations to precede similar flux variations in the X-rays. The length of the time lag favours models where the observed UV and the seed-photon-emitting regions are connected by perturbations of the accretion flow traveling inwards through the disc, affecting first the main-U -band-emitting radii and then the innermost region where the bulk of the seed photons is expected to be produced. Finally, the absence of significant features in the correlation function with X-ray flux variations preceding those in the UV indicates that the observed U -band photons are not mainly produced through reprocessing of hard X-rays in this source.

X - ray continuum variability of MCG – 6 - 30 - 15

This paper presents a comprehensive examination of the X-ray continuum variability of the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG–6-30-15. The source clearly shows the strong, linear correlation between rms variability amplitude and flux first seen in Galactic X-ray binaries. The high frequency power spectral density (PSD) of MCG–6-30-15 is examined in detail using a Monte Carlo fitting procedure and is fo...

An absorption origin for the X - ray spectral variability of MCG – 6 - 30 - 15

Context. The Seyfert I galaxy MCG−6-30-15 shows one of the best examples of a broad “red wing” of emission in its X-ray spectrum at energies 2 < E < 6.4 keV, commonly interpreted as being caused by relativistically-blurred reflection close to the event horizon of

Accretion Processes in Agn : the X-ray View

We discuss constraints on the physics of the inner accretion disk, as well as the properties of the black hole itself, that can be derived by a detailed examination of the relativistically broadened spectral features (especially the fluorescent iron line) in the Seyfert galaxy MCG–6-30-15. To begin with, we show that spectral models which purport to eliminate the broad iron line in MCG–6-30-15 ...

A two zone model for the broad Iron line emission in MCG-6-30-15

We reanalyze the ASCA and BeppoSAX data of MCG-6-30-15, using a double zone model for the Iron line profile. In this model, the X-ray source is located around ≈ 10 Schwarzschild radius and the regions interior and exterior to the X-ray source produce the line emission. We find that this model fits the data with similar reduced χ as the standard single zone model. The best fit inclination angle ...

An RXTE Observation of the Seyfert 1 Galaxy MCG − 6 - 30 - 15 : X - ray Reflection and the Iron Abundance

We report on a 50 ks observation of the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG−6-30-15 with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. The data clearly show the broad fluorescent iron line (equivalent width ∼ 250 eV), and the Compton reflection continuum at higher energies. A comparison of the iron line and the reflection continuum has enabled us to constrain reflective fraction and the elemental abundances in the ...
